Sylvia Wuensche-Wienands: Photography, Painting and Multi-Media Work

These galleries show my passion for three types of art work: fine arts photography, acrylic painting and mixed media, in this case adding wool for texture, visible and invisible, for my multi media work.
Most of the time I get my inspiration from my photos, where I prefer macro and abstract images. Apart from having a value on their own I use them as a starting point in my paintings and develope them further by changing shape, intensifying color and/or changing balance and rhythm.

Opera Bluebeard by Bela Bartok

This work is inspired by Bela Bartok's opera Bluebeard's Castle. These paintings of the doors that Judith, Bluebeard's new wife, opens one by one are revealing Bluebeard's character. At first the revealing of the door's scenes appear harmless but at a closer look they are tainted with blood. In the end Judith becomes wife Nr 4 as night and disappears in the castle's dungeon with the other three wives. All is painted with a limited palette on black canvas in an expressionist style.

Small Paintings inspired by Psalms

As a Lenten practice in 2018 I painted 40 small abstract/semiabstract paintings inspired by the Psalms . I used the King James Version of the Bible because it has very poetic language and inspired me to tranfer the songs into abstract and semiabstract paintings. In 2019 I exhibited this series in lent at the Wesley Methodist church in Naperville in the sanctuary as a meditation guide.
