The Flying Dutchman (Redemption)

In this painting a semi-abstract style is used to depict the redemption theme in Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman. The Dutchman is condemned to sail the world until he gets redeemed by a faithful wife. The eye is huge, searching; the red symbolizes the pain of the Dutchman, his endless wandering.
